IS 831 and Consumer Research 2.0 - What it's all about

First, a word about the purpose of this blog.
The Consumer Research 2.0 blog is an open account of my research and analysis for Boston University School of Management course IS 831 - Advanced Topics in IT Strategy. The body of work for this course will be a strategic position paper for a sector and company of my choosing, shared incrementally and iteratively on this site.

Project Overview.
The traditional marketing research industry is undergoing substantial transformation as new online research methodologies and technologies take shape to explain consumer behavior in a whole new solution space.

This new space is highly fragmented and it remains to be seen who will emerge as dominant players. Opportunity abounds for a player who can successfully leverage existing technologies and disrupt this evolving market at scale.
In other words, it's an exciting time to take a closer look at these tech firms making waves. Specifically, I intend to explore:
  • The nature of demand for products and services
  • The technologies that are fulfilling those demands
  • And specifically, how (notably absent) Microsoft can be successful here
